Healthy Chinese Cuisine Ambassadors (HCCA) project was launched in 2013 managed by Ming-Ai (London) Institute with its supportive partner Lee Kum Kee, bringing healthy Chinese cuisine into schools across London. The project worked with professional chefs to deliver interactive cookery workshops to students teaching them about Chinese culinary traditions and culture. Seeing the success of the HCCA project, the FUN:) Healthy Chinese Cuisine Ambassadors project was launched in 2015 to complement the new GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition curriculum.
FUNHCCA aims to address the increasing trend of obesity in the society and to promote alternative but healthy cooking methods to schools. The project trains up Ambassadors of FUN:) with valuable knowledge and practical Chinese cooking skills. These Ambassadors then demonstrate how easy to make, healthy and delicious home-made Chinese food - and it takes less time than ordering a takeaway!
The project has hosted teacher cooking workshops in Ming-Ai (London) Institute's fully-fitted kitchen as well as all over the UK. These workshops give teachers the skills, experience and knowledge to prepare healthy Chinese cuisine in their own lessons.
In addition to our school visits a number of lesson plans and teaching resources are produced in order for teachers to make use of. These lesson plans and video materials with recipe and food preparation skills can now be found on at http://funchinesecooking.com.
